Besides eating and drinking, sleep is a basic human need for healthy living. Enough sleep not only reduces the stress that is felt throughout the day, but also beneficial for lowering blood glucose.

The blood glucose lowering effect can only be obtained with sufficient sleep. It happened because recent research shows that sleep deprivation will lead to insulin resistance. Another reason is people who are sleep deprived often have sleep apnea or stopped breathing for a moment that is often associated with diabetes.

Scientific evidence also shows that sleep itself helps the body use glucose efficiently.

A study found that people who sleep five hours a night had a sensitivity of 40 percent less insulin than those who slept eight hours. Most people slept 60-90 minutes less than the actual sleep time is needed.
